Research and Areas of Expertise

Generations, especially Generations Z and Y. What characteristics do these generations have, do they really exist as “the Generation XYZ”, and what opportunities and challenges do they bring for organizations?

Leadership topics: I have been working as a leadership trainer at the Deutsche Hochschule der Polizei since 2013 and as a leadership trainer in Bavaria since 2018. I draw on my practical experience as a leader in a wide variety of roles, but constantly strive to broaden my horizons, evaluate new concepts and approaches, or rediscover old ideas.

Work science, in particular (EU) working time and occupational health law, findings on the humane design of shift work, and organizational-psychological aspects of shift work.

Crowd psychology: What exactly happens when large numbers of people gather, what is the difference between a physical and a psychological crowd, what is solidarity, and what role do security authorities play in these processes? This also encompasses aspects of phenomenology, criminology, strategy, and operational tactics.

Operational management: for over 20 years I have been professionally engaged in managing operational situations, more than 15 of those years in a wide variety of leadership and command roles. This work has also inspired me to engage in academic research, to contextualize and reflect on these many experiences. From this emerged my first master’s thesis, then the second, and finally a doctoral dissertation. My intensive engagement with the topic of “crowd psychology” is naturally also a direct outgrowth of this professionally-driven curiosity.
